Advantages of Silk fiber
Eri Silk has the following characteristics:
- Thermal insulation, breathability, isothermal
- Natural silk
- Non-violent etc.
- Blends well with other fibers
- It helps keep you warm during cold weather and cool in the heat.
Allows air to circulate around your body, keeping you dry and comfortable in a healthy sleeping environment Ability to ventilate and wick away perspiration and high humidity. The worms feed off castor leaves available even in drought-prone regions on small plots of land alongside other crops.
Providing small and marginal farmers an alternative economic activity and income source. Unlike mulberry silkworm rearing which is known to be land-intensive.
Eri has a small water footprint and produces zero waste. Most plant-based natural fibers like cotton and linen require a lot of water during the growing stage and need very good irrigation infrastructure.
On Jan. 29th 2019 Citizen TV presented Primetime broadcasts of Tosheka Textiles – Silk Development Project in Wote, Kenya.
Tosheka Textiles project was chosen to be featured by Citizen T.V. as the best of ten projects visited in Makueni County Kenya. We are developing a replicable textile supply and value chain that will initially engage 3,000 farmers in the production of the Eri silk.
Our ability to provide an array of world-class Eri silk products is bolstered by our partnership with Mr. Dilip the founder and CEO of Fabric Plus. He is a pioneer in manufacturing of branded handloom silk products and the largest commercial manufacturer of Eri or Ahimsa Silk in North East India.
